Transition to the Teens: Bedroom Design Tips for Teenagers

One of our favorite things to do is to help families transition their children's rooms from "little kid" to rooms that reflect the ages, interests and places the kids are in life. And kids are the BEST about describing what they like and the amazing energy they share when they see their new rooms!
 
 This project was super special because we took three siblings from two rooms to three rooms, giving each their own unique teen bedroom design. We also worked within a tight budget - ensuring that mom and dad still have college funds intact, and leaving room for the kids to continue to evolve their looks. We like to go for higher quality on the bigger pieces, like dressers, and not break the bank on the more trendy, fun components. In this case, paint and new carpet were necessities to update the spaces.
 
 HADLEY'S ROOM
 Hadley showed us a Pinterest board with a distinct free-spirited, bohemian vibe that we had a lot of fun with, giving her lots of texture and material interest.

We used a natural color palette chanelling Justina Blakeney, even using some of her products made for Target, along with an Opalhouse rug.

This West Elm dresser will function with lots of looks, and adding the arched paint detail and bamboo sunburst mirror gave it that boho vibe.

We found this fun bedding set at Home Goods, and accented with the Jungalow pillow and art from Target.

Painting details brought this study spot to life, with inexpensive furniture pieces from Target.

Details make the room - Hadley's Instax camera and handmade candle found the perfect home on the shelf above her desk.
 

MARSHALL'S ROOM
 Marshall moved to the room that was previously a guest room, and he let us know that he wanted it to feel very different! Marshall loves sports, but he did not want a little boy theme-y sports room. This room will grow up with Marshall with its sophisticated take on a boy's space.

We needed a good amount of storage in this small room, so nightstands with lots of drawers always help when we do not have room for a big dresser. The bed was existing and we had our painter paint it a nice warm ivory to pop against the navy wall.

Marshall's study space is where his sports faves get some love. His desk and chair are also from Target.
 
 
 SAVANNAH'S ROOM
 No more bunk beds! Savannah, the oldest of the siblings, had lots of inspo for us, exuding a more dramatic and somewhat glamorous vibe.

Savannah's light grey headboard and blush bedding really shine against the indigo accent wall she chose. We used gold accents and and black and white photographs of Paris that Savannah chose to give this room a very grown up look.

We made sure to have plenty of space to support Savannah's love of reading (we can relate!), and some personal items like photos, and each room has a designated study space. Here, we used the desk in place of a second nightstand, another great space saving trick.
