Get Your Home Holiday-Ready with These Easy Fall Upgrades and Timely Tips

Thanksgiving is just 16 weeks away! While that may sound distant, in the world of custom design, that timeframe is short. As the leaves start to turn and the air gets crisp, it’s the perfect time to make your home warm, inviting, and ready for holiday gatherings.

The holidays should be filled with connection and joy—not last-minute stress. By starting now, you can ensure that when guests arrive, your home feels like a cozy retreat, filled with laughter and layered with thoughtful details.

Dining Room Glow-Ups

The dining room is the heart of holiday entertaining, and a few well-chosen updates can completely change the mood—no full remodel required.

  • Upgrade the lighting. A statement fixture can instantly set the tone for the entire room. In one recent project, we also swapped a dated deep-red wall color for a lighter shade we love—Sherwin-Williams Opaline—and replaced a heavy, matchy-matchy hutch with a sleek new credenza. Even the dining chairs got a fresh coat of paint, breaking up all the brown tones and giving the room a lighter, more modern feel.

  • Refresh the seating & rug. In another space, we added fully upholstered chairs to the client’s existing dining table and layered a bold, graphic rug underneath. The transformation was instant—modernizing the room and aligning it with the fresh aesthetic of their Preston Hollow home.

  • Mix in antiques thoughtfully. We restored a client’s heirloom dining table and chairs, then paired them with other collected antiques from their home. To avoid the “old heavy” look, we introduced patterned drapery, a more casual rug, and a balanced mix of wood tones. The result: a warm, collected, but updated space.

Creating a Cozy Guest Room

Give your guests more than just a place to sleep—create a small sanctuary that feels intentional and welcoming.

  • Invest in key pieces now. If you’re dreaming of a new bed, a custom headboard, or a full bedding refresh, this is the moment to get the process started. Custom work often takes weeks to complete, and planning ahead ensures every detail is in place when guests arrive.

  • Layer in comfort. Plush towels, extra blankets, and a bedside carafe make a world of difference. Add a small vase of fresh flowers or a candle in a seasonal scent for an elevated touch.

  • Think like a boutique hotel. Soft lighting, a luggage rack, and a little welcome basket with local treats will make visitors feel spoiled.

Why Now Is the Time to Start

Custom pieces, upholstery, and drapery can take 8–12 weeks to arrive—and that’s before installation is scheduled. By finalizing measurements, approvals, and orders now, you’ll skip the rush and avoid those dreaded “on backorder” notifications in November. When you start early, the holidays become what they should be: time spent enjoying your home, your style, and your people—not tracking deliveries. Let’s make it happen. Gather your ideas, make your lists, and let’s start designing now so your home is holiday-ready well before the first guest rings the bell.
