Tate Studio Featured in The Dallas Morning News: Designing Kids’ Spaces You’ll Both Love

Updated: Feb 3

Celebrating Thoughtful Design in Kids’ Spaces at Tate Studio

We’re excited to share a recent "feather in our cap" at Tate Studio. We were featured in The Dallas Morning News in an article all about creating children’s rooms and play spaces that feel just as good to parents as they do to kids. Kids’ spaces are some of the most joyful rooms we design, and it was an honor to be included in a conversation that celebrates thoughtful, playful design without sacrificing livability.

Why Kids’ Spaces Deserve Thoughtful Design

Children’s rooms aren’t just places to sleep or store toys. They’re where imagination runs wild, where quiet moments happen before bedtime, and where small routines slowly become memories. In the article, we shared how kids’ spaces offer a rare opportunity to embrace color, pattern, and personality in a way that feels natural and fun.

Unlike more formal areas of the home, these rooms invite creativity. Wallpaper, layered textures, playful gallery walls, and unexpected details can instantly make a space feel magical while still feeling cohesive with the rest of the home.

Designing for Today and Tomorrow

One of the key points highlighted in the feature is longevity. Kids grow quickly, and their spaces should be able to grow with them. At Tate Studio, we prioritize furniture and layouts that evolve. We focus on pieces that can transition from nursery to elementary years and beyond. The Importance of Play in Design

Play is the point. The article touches on how intentional design can encourage creativity rather than restrict it. We love incorporating elements like modular seating, open floor plans, and multi-use surfaces that invite kids to build, imagine, and move freely.

When a space supports play, it supports learning, confidence, and independence. It still gets to look beautiful.

Durable, Livable, and Still Beautiful

Let’s be honest: kids’ rooms work hard. Spills happen. Toys get dragged across rugs. That’s why material selection matters so much. As mentioned in the article, performance fabrics, durable upholstery, and easy-to-clean finishes allow families to actually live in these spaces without constantly worrying about wear and tear.

What This Feature Means to Us

Being featured in The Dallas Morning News is especially meaningful because it reflects what we value most: creating homes that support real life. Kids’ rooms are deeply personal spaces, and we approach them with the same care and intention as any other room in the home. Thoughtful design isn’t about perfection; it’s about creating environments that feel joyful, functional, and lived in.

Creating Lasting Memories

When designing children’s spaces, we focus on creating lasting memories. Each element should inspire joy and creativity. We believe that every detail contributes to the overall experience of the room. From the choice of colors to the arrangement of furniture, every decision matters.
